Rule of thumb: What happens if an accused person is given too many different criminal charges on the charge sheet for the trial? This is a loaded deck – (a) The charges should be reduced, or, (b) it should be split up into multiple trials - so that a person has a fair chance to properly defend all accusations.

Judgment:

"whether it is fair to the person accused to put a particular accumulation of charges in one indictment".38 LJC Aitchison
